Pancakes and bacon yesterday. And the pancakes definitely taste different when greasing the pan with butter rather than bacon fat. The weekend routine was thrown off a tiny bit.

T. wasn't feeling well, so she took a nap in the late morning/early afternoon. The kid had an afternoon activity, the Scouts' pinewood derby. I had to go to the grocery store for tea, cough drops, and a few other things. I gave her the choice of doing the shopping with me before the derby (i.e. basically interrupting the episode of TV she was watching) or after (i.e. maybe delaying or even preventing uncertain plans for playing with friends). She opted for the former, sullenly. I said yes to more requests than I normally might have (Froot Loops, jumbo Goldfish) to make shopping a little more appealing. Not sure if it actually helps.

The derby went well enough. The kid didn't want to compete in the main event and didn't have much interest in it, but she got to hang out with friends who were there. There was a little squabbling over who wanted to hang out with whom, I'm not looking forward to this age, but still, glad we went. She was interested in the Scout's Choice award and had decorated her car for that. Didn't win but was fairly understanding of it.

After we got home, we had about an hour of downtime. Then her friend across the street came over for over an hour.

Dinner was chicken and green beans.

The kid got a lot of screen time. Bad parenting, maybe, but it was rainy and cold out and we had done enough prodding the kid to do more edifying stuff the day before, and T. was tired. I put the kid to bed even though it wasn't my turn.
