Yesterday we dropped the kid off at school, came home, and just about 10 minutes later took the cat to the vet. A "partial urinary tract obstruction." Like kidney stones but not in the kidneys, I guess. We left him at the vet for a few hours for observation, and they said they couldn't take care of him themselves and he should go to the veterinary emergency hospital. Luckily it's convenient, just a few blocks away. He's still there for observation. Apparently this sort of thing can kill cats if it's just a little bit worse than his case. But it's still $3,100 bad so far and we aren't done yet...

It's funny, talking between us, T. seems eager to find a price point where we stop caring for the cat. When the doctor is in the room, I'm the first to bring up money. We care about the cat, and he was fine two weeks ago and probably still has many years ahead of him, but some of the sums of money they were talking about could pay for a new bathroom.

In between those, work was OK. I wasn't able to put in a full day due to the cat but I'll manage for the week.

The kid's guitar lesson went fine. Dinner afterwards was fried rice from a kit - easy enough.

Last night and this morning I missed not having to check for the cat.
